I've been trying to avoid comparing my experiences at the DNC in Denver last week with those at the RNC here in St. Paul. While the politics are obviously different, the set-up, logistics, and credentialing are pretty much the same. Even run by mostly the same people, so there really hasn't been that much different, except...
Let me start by saying I was thrilled to find, as was also the case in Denver, a Diet Coke machine -- two, in fact -- within just a few short feet of our workspace. I'll be spending quite a bit of time here over the next several days, I thought to myself. And the restroom is right down the hall. So, how lucky can I get, right?
Well, imagine my surprise when, with dollar bill in hand, I rush over to my new-found friend and it wants to charge me $3.00 for the exact same size bottle of Diet Coke I paid just $1.00 for in Denver (at the Pepsi Center). Why such a huge difference, I wonder. Despite the desire of some to bring politics into play, it certainly can't be a Democrat vs. Republican issue. Or can it?
