I just managed to squeeze my way off the floor of the Pepsi Center -- an arena filled to capacity tonight with overwhelmingly enthusiastic Democrats surprised by the appearance of the man they nominated to be their candidate for president. Barack Obama walked onto the stage moments after Joe Biden delivered his acceptance speech for the vice presidential nomination. The Scranton native was introduced by one of his three children, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden. At times while Karin, Bill, and I were on the floor, the sound was almost deafening.
Our time on the floor tonight was made possible by the Democratic National Committee, who provided us with the floor credentials and two escorts to take us into the Pennsylvania delegation's seating area and then onto a camera riser just to the left of the stage.
Bill managed to capture close-up reaction of the delegates when Biden, and then Obama, walked onto the stage. After their speeches, Bill and Karin returned to the Pennsylvania delegation. They managed to interview both state Senator Mike O'Pake of Berks County and U.S. Senator Bob Casey, Jr.
